Defintion of Religion is A religion is a set of beliefs that is held by a group of people that is reflected in a world view and in expected beliefs and actions (which are often ritualized).Definition of Theology is the study of God and religious truth.The difference between the two: religion deals with the cultural system of worship and Theology deals with study of God as a divine being.

- Dharma: Virtuous, appropriate behavior
- Founder: Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha)
- Founding: Between the 6th and 4th centuries BCE

- Place of worship: Temples, shrines, & monasteries
- Initially ideas were spread orally
- Tipitaka – the “triple basket” collection of sacred texts
- Sutras – records of the Buddha’s oral teachings
Important Concepts:
- 4 Noble Truths: Buddha’s most important teachings
- The Eightfold Path: the way to end suffering and reach nirvana/ enlightenment
- Nirvana: enlightenment and the end of the cycle of suffering
- Confucianism – named for followers of the philosopher Confucius, lived from 551 to 479 BCE
- Focused on social harmony and filial piety (respect for your parents & ancestors)
- The Golden Rule: “Do not do unto others what you would not want others to do unto you.”
- Education is an important concept of Confucianism
- Living in harmony with nature
- Wu wei – effortless action
- The Three Treasures: compassion, frugality, and humility
- Indigenous religion to Japan
- Traced back to about 300 BCE
- Polytheistic with millions of kami that are worshipped
- Leaders: priests known as kannushi who oversee shrines
- Humans are good and evil spirits can be kept away through rituals & offerings
- Founder: Guru Nanak and succeeding gurus
- Founding: around 1500 CE
- Sacred Writing: Guru Granth Sahib

- Faith in one creator and service to humanity
- Equality of all humankind
- Meditation to defeat the 5 Thieves
- Founder: Jesus Christ
- Founding: between 30-300 CE
- Sacred Writing: the Bible, including the Old and New Testament
- Place of Worship: churches and cathedrals
- Leaders: Jesus’ 12 Apostles helped spread his message
- Today includes the Pope for Roman Catholics, clergy & priests

Next ,we have Lucy,outspoken and assertive friend. Lucy will remind us to question, challenge and engage in meaningful discussion about our faith. Our Catholic faith will invite us to examine our beliefs, seek understanding and deepen our relationship with God.”
“Next, we have Linus, our wise and philosophical friend who cares his security blanket everywhere. Linus will remind us of the importance of faith and trust in God. Jut as Linus finds comfort in his security blanket, we too can find comfort and strength in our faith during challenging times.”
