SCAMPIA
START
In fact, its name seems to derive from ''outing''. According to a different version, however, the name Scampia derives from the fact that the provincial tram exchange took place in this place.
Why is it called Scampia ?
Scampia is a district of Naples located in the north of the city, built at the turn of the second half of the twentieth century which borders many neighborhoods.
Where is it ?
Why should you visit it?
You should visit Scampia for the particularity of the construction of the sails, symbol of this neighborhood and so called for their triangular shape. But not only that, also for its history, for its restaurants and for the famous ''Gomorra'' series which was recorded throughout Naples but mainly in the center of Scampia.
The sails of Scampia are a residential complex built between 1962 and 1975. They take their name from their triangular shape, which recalls that of a sail: wide at the base, the building narrows as you go up to the upper floors. It was designed by the architect Francesco Di Salvo, who created this project inspired by the alleys of the historic center of Naples and was originally composed of 7 buildings, four of which have been demolished and of the three remaining, two will be demolished while the last will be redeveloped, as well as the blue sail. Over time, the common areas of the complex became places of infamy, venues for illicit trafficking and the sails themselves became a symbol of the decay of the Naples district.
