President Lincoln gave a short speech in 1863, at the dedication of the Gettysburg cemetery. He spoke about the importance of the principles of liberty and equality that the United States was founded on and how the civil war was a test of whether those principles would survive. He also honored the soldiers who had died fighting in the war.

Fort Sumter was a United States military installation located in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. It was the site of the first battle of the American Civil War. Confederate forces attacked the fort on April 12, 1861, and the Union forces surrendered the next day that battle marked the beginning of the Civil War.

Lincoln was shot in the back of the head by John Wilkes Booth while attending a play at Ford's Theater in Washington, DC on April 14, 1865. He died the following morning. Booth shot Lincoln because he was mad about the outcome of the Civil War, after booth fled the scene he was later found and killed by Union soldiers.

The first battle of Bull Run, on July 21, 1861. The battle was fought near Manassas, Virginia. the Union army was ultimately forced to retreat and Confedertes were able to hold their ground.

The New York City draft riots were a series of violent protests in 1863 against the Union Army's draft during the Civil War. The riots resulted in the deaths of many people, including African American, and caused significant property damage.
