GOALS- warn the pupils against misinformation and teach them how to spot them. - give them the opportunity to communIcate in english in authentic situations.- give them the opportunity to work in an international team.- teach them how to use new digital tools. -learn how to express hypothesies.- teach them how to write a survey using the present perfect.- use the conditionnal to write a chinese portrait.- learn to understand how a newspaper article is written.-learn words linked to the media and to fake news. (spread rumours, lie, chat, deceive...)

Step 1: The pupils introduced themselves.

The childre introduced themselves writing chinese portraits -tool: Padlet, and wrtining in the twinboard provided by the twinspace.

Step 2: eSafety and the Netiquette

The technology teachers taught the pupils to respect the safety rules when using the internet for their research. -copyright issues and image rights. The two partner schools had a live chat and did a collaborative activity for Safer Internet Day using http://Mentimeter.com.

Step 3: brainstorming in class: what do you know about fake news ?The children answered the question: 'what words do you think of when you hear the word 'fake news'?We collected the answers in a « Wordle » and the Italians chose Mentimeter to create posters and slogans.

Step 4 : Logos- with the collaboration of the art and technology teachers.

The pupils were asked to explain their logo

And the winner is...

The pupils used Tricider to choose the best logo.The final logo is a combination of a french logo and an italian logo.

- The pupils learnt what a logo is.- They prepared them in pairs and described them.- They then voted.

The logo creator Noemi had an idea and combined her winning logo with other logos created by their French partners.

Let's be fair! a congratulation message.

Step 5: Reading comprehension: all the pupils were given three articles and they worked in teams.

Then, we asked them to give their opinion: were these articles real or fake news?- topics : the power of rosemary, a couple getting divorced- source: World News Daily Report, and a consipracy invoving Hilary Clinton.-British Council.As all the children were wrong, we showed them how to spot fake news and fake pictures, using tools like : Snopes and Tineyes.

Step 6: collaborative mindmap: the pupils completed this mindmap

- By checking the publication date: it is sometimes different from the date of the illustration.- By checking the source. For example, we discovered that World News Daily Report itself says : 'World News Daily Report assumes all responsibility for the satirical nature of its articles and for the fictional nature of their content.'- There's a lot of advertisement.- See if there are any clickbait titles or see if there is any sensational words that attract attention.- Find out who the author is-Do the C.R.A.P test (Current, Reputable,Author, Purpose of point of view.- Cross-check on other sites.- Check if the photo is authentic.- Check dates and details in the picture

- In scientific documents. - on social networking sites. - On internet sites easily visible- On applications that people use very frequently.

- For economic purposes.- Some people want to get LIKES- To earn money.- For commercial advantage.- to attract attention.- For political advantage.- People can make money through ads.- Some people want to be famous.

- the names of important or famous people like scientists are mentioned.- seemingly factual facts are given -like percentages.- sources are given.- some facts are dated..- the name of the author is sometimes given- the results are sometimes presented in official conferences- They sometimes mention real places like universities .- By mentioning names of important people, for example scientists.Using exaggeration, characters that amaze you, using famous people.- Sometimes they quote people using brackets to look more real.

We asked them to give their opinion : were these articles real or fake news?As all the children were wrong, we showed them how to spot fake news and fake pictures, using tools like : Snopes and Tineyes
