Since the 50s we have produced 8.3 billion tons of plastic, throwing 6.3 billion tons into nature.

Plastic incineration is one of the waste disposal methods that is used in some parts of the world. Incineration can be a solution to reduce the volume of waste and recover energy, but it can also have negative environmental impacts, such as the emission of greenhouse gases and toxic substances.

According to estimates by PlasticsEurope, an association representing the European plastics industry, in 2019 the plastic recycling rate in Europe was 32.5%. This indicates that around a third of the plastic produced has been recycled. In the United States, according to 2019 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) data, the plastic recycling rate was 8.7%. This means that less than 10% of the plastic has actually been recycled.

from this graph we can see that too much plastic is used for packaging and food. it would be good practice to reduce this percentage by using mesh bags to carry groceries, buy food in bulk and use plastic as little as possible.

World plastic production has gone from 15 million in 1964 to over 310 million. Just this year a study appeared this year in the prestigious "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences" The impact of plastic litter, especially of single-use and disposable items (bags, straws, coffee cups, most food packaging) is growing because each year more and more plastic waste is thrown in our environment and in the oceans therefore single-use plastic products are banned and measures to reduce consumption of plastics are introduced.

according to the 2030 agenda: The goal is to adopt an environmentally friendly approach to chemicals plastics and waste plastics. The volume of waste will have to be significantly reduced, among other things through recovery. Food waste will have to be halved. Businesses will need to be encouraged towards sustainable business management.
