She was born in Warsaw in 1910.When the Second World War broked out, she was 29 and worked as a social worker for the municipal administration.In 1942 the secret organization "advise for the aid of the Jews" (Zegota) was born and Irena immediately became one of its main activists as head of the children's department of Zegota On October 20, 1943, the Nazis arrested she and brutally tortured her for three months without being able to get her to speak; from that moment her life changes, she can no longer enter the ghetto: she must necessarily live in hiding. The announcement of his death, on 12 May 2008 in Warsaw, aroused great emotion in the country.
