The purpose of textual evidence is to support the claims, arguments, and analysis presented in a piece of writing. When you use textual evidence, you are drawing on specific examples from a text to support your interpretation or perspective on that text.
Why use it?
Textual evidence refers to any piece of information or support that is drawn from a written or spoken text, which is then used to support an argument or analysis in a piece of writing.
What is it?
Types of textual evidence
This is when you quote a passage from the text word for word. Direct quotations are useful when you want to highlight a specific phrase or idea from the source.
Direct Quotations
This is when you reword a passage from the text in your own words. Paraphrasing is useful when you want to convey the meaning of a passage without using the exact words from the text.
Paraphrasing
This is when you condense the main ideas of a text into a shorter version. Summary is useful when you want to provide an overview of a text without going into too much detail.
