Should Humanity's Future Lie Among the Stars?
Introduction
01
For centuries, the Earth has been heavily polluted due to humanity's carelessness. We should be investing more into Earth because most of Earth is polluted, causing deadly diseases, and we're actively killing the cures to those diseases.
All of your favorite animals, ranging from adorable sea turtles to the most popular sharks are quickly losing their homes due to pollution and we need to save them.
Should humanity's future lie among the stars?

02. Body 1
To begin with, we should be investing more in the Earth because at this point, most of the Earth is polluted and it's affecting our health. The Times wrote an article supporting this called, "Less than 1% of Earth has safe levels of air pollution, study finds." In this article, the author wrote, "About 99.82% of the global land area is exposed to particulate matter 2.5 — tiny particals in the air that scientists have linked to lung cancer and heart disease." This quote proves that the effects of pollution are causing the probability of deadly diseases to get higher.

Furthermore, there are marine animals that can cure diseases, but we're killing those animals by polluting their habitats. In the article, “Mars Can Wait, Oceans Can’t,” the author wrote, “Ocean organisms are said to hold the promise of cures for an array of diseases.” This quote proves that we need to save the ocean from pollution because if those animal’s habitats aren't safe to live in, they will die. Not only are we raising the chances of harsh diseases, we’re killing the cures to those diseases too.

COUNTERCLAIM
However, critics may argue that we’re spending too much money and wasting billions of dollars, and they’re right. We’re spending hundreds of billions of dollars on excess things, such as manned missions. We could spend a fraction of that money to save Earth, and if we only need a fraction to save Earth, we only need a fraction of that to explore space. Manned space missions cost us billions of dollars, but we don’t need manned missions. The article, “Mars Can Wait, Ocean’s Cant,” states, “Actually, there are very good reasons to stop spending billions of dollars on manned space exploration, to explore space in ways that are safer and much less costly.” If manned space missions are so expensive, imagine how expensive it’d be to take everyone to a different planet.
