WHAT DO WE DO?
Within the engineering industry there are a range of roles offering not exactly linked to engineering (e.g business management, IT, etc)

I work in the Collins Aerospace Wolverhampton site which focuses on Actuation Sytems and i am a 2nd Year Level 3 Engineering Apprentice
Britney - Engineering Apprentice at Collins Aerospace
I work at BAE Systems around sites in the North West. I am a second year aerospace degree apprentice currenlty on placement rotations around the business

I work at Airbus in Filton, Bristol. I completed a level 6 apprenticeship and graduted with a BEng in Aerospace Engineering in 2022.

Let's talk about the different types
By definition an apprenticeship is a paid job where the employee combines practical training in a job and study to gain valuable experience. Most commonly it is known as an alternative route to A Levels and University as it is an opportunity to learn hands on skills in a working environment from an early stage and get your qualifications alongside. Up till recently, many people may have thought that apprenticeships are only for vocational labour cousrses but that is most definitely not the case as there are different types of appnticeships available:
What are apprenticeships?
In the end, you achieve your qualification with increased chances of employement
You are given both a salary and fund for your learning and work
You become aware at an earlier stage to the working environment
You have the opportunities to travel and learn from professionals in the field

Most people often go through the traditional path of going to university post A Levels. But now more recently we see the great amount of debt students are put under after going to University. Therefore, because of this degree apprenticeships have come more to light and rightfully are a strong alternative option to a range of university courses So, a few reasons why are the following:

Besides looking online, you can equivalently search for apprenticeship opportunities in person and in some ways this can be easier as you receive the information directly. However, it might be a bit more difficult to access so it is usually best to initially see what is near by you/

When not knowing what type of apprenticeship you want to do whether it is advanced, higher or degree a great place to start to look is online. This way you can get information of all different types of opportunities and see which roles/industries may suit you and your interests. Through looking online, you can also find the requirements for applications and what type of candidate they're looking for, so it's also a good place for research pre-interview and assessment centres.

How to make your application stand out
Conduct thorough research on the program and the company offering the apprenticeship. Look for information about the company's values, mission, and culture, and try to incorporate this knowledge into your application.

Extracurricular activities that align with the apprenticeship program's requirements is another great way to make your application stand out.
Extra Curricular Activities
These can be academenic, sports, music etc. Any sort of key achievement that showcases your excellence. Make sure to eloborate on the skills and behaviours you displayed in order to achieve it.
Key Achievements
Relevant work experience is a great way to show your interest in the field. It is also a great way to showcase the skills and abilities you have displayed during the experience and what you have learnt.

Education: List your educational qualifications, including any relevant coursework or certifications. Be sure to highlight any academic achievements, such as scholarships or awards. Work Experience: List any work experience you have that is relevant to the degree apprenticeship program. Focus on experiences that showcase your skills and abilities and align with the program requirements. Skills: Highlight any skills that you have that are relevant to the program. Include both technical and soft skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. References: Include a list of references who can attest to your skills and abilities. These can be academic or professional references, and it's important to obtain their consent before listing them on your CV.

Relevant qualifications: Highlight your relevant qualifications and experiences that make you a strong candidate for the program. Personalization: Customize your cover letter to the specific company or organization offering the degree apprenticeship program. Mention why you are interested in the company or organization and what you can contribute. Enthusiasm: Express your enthusiasm for the program and the company or organization. Let the employer know that you are excited about the opportunity and eager to learn and contribute to the field. Closing: Close the letter by thanking the employer for considering your application and expressing your interest in further discussing your qualifications.
It is either one to one or there are a couple of interviewers in this stage and the interview can be 30-45 minutes long and is the main part of the assessment
This is an individual task and usually depends on the course you are taking but it assesses your knowledge and understanding of methodology
Along with the other candidates a group activity is likely to take place in which you are assessed on the way you work in a team
