A structural material consisting of sheets of wood glued with an adhesive (in different directions)

A veneer is actually a "paper thin" cut of wood that's applied to both sides of a strong core surface, like furniture-grade MDF or substrate material, to seal and stabilize it.

DIFFRENCE BETWEEN THEM

the average raw material dimensions can help guide design decisions:Maximum raw veneer length available is 17 feetMost common lengths are 10-12 feetMost veneer presses are maximum 10 feetMost particle board is 8 to 10 feetMost plywood is 8 feet

W Today’s standard veneer thickness is 1/52”. Applying wood veneer means you can use a less available wood, which may be harder to get or more expensive, and veneer it over the top of something that’s more readily available and less expensive.

Wood veneer is thin slices of wood that are usually glued to flat panels such as doors, cabinets, and walls.

There are a few types of veneers available, each serving a particular purpose

TYPES Of VenEER

Phenolic backed veneer is less common and is used for composite, or artificial wood veneers. Due to concern for the natural resource, this is becoming more popular. It too has the advantage of being available in sheets, and is also less likely to crack when being used on curves.

Paper backed veneer is as the name suggests, veneers that are backed with paper. The advantage to this is it is -available in large sizes This is helpful for users that do not wish to join smaller pieces of raw veneers together. This is also helpful when veneering curves and columns as the veneer is less likely to crack.

Raw veneer has no backing on it and can be used with either side facing up. It is important to note that the two sides will appear different when a finish has been applied, due to the cell structure of the wood.

veneer

The most prominent use of plywood is in structural applications. Plywood can naturally withstand a lot of stress and full weather exposure. Structural plywood is best used for beams and hoardings, but it is commonly used in crates, bins, internal structures, outdoor furniture, and boxes.

PLYWOOD

https://gharpedia.com/blog/advantages-disadvantages-plywood/

Veneer core plywood

is comprised of layers of wood ply sandwiching a core of MDF, or multi-density fiber. It’s very stable with a more consistent thickness than veneer core plywood and is often used for doors.

is the basic plywood with layers of wood bonded together. It’s very strong.

Lumber core plywood

is a brand name for a high-end type of veneer core plywood with many hardwood plies that is used for drawers and furniture where the edges are visible and sometimes become design elements in and of themselves. The face can be made of various types of hardwood, though it’s often maple.

is comprised of lumber sandwiched between veneer layers. It’s often used for long shelves.

is waterproof, and usually of greater thickness for a squeak-free floor.

is often used for lateral bracing on building exteriors and is rated CDX. The “C” is the rating on the face, the “D” is the rating on the back, and the “X” is for Exposure, which means it’s meant for outside use when covered with siding, for example. It has exterior-rated glue.

Aircraft plywood

is varnished with water-resistant exterior glue that helps it repel water. While not entirely waterproof, this plywood can stand up to moderate moisture. It is made of western larch or Douglas fir wood and is one of the highest quality types of plywood available. For it to qualify as marine plywood, it cannot have any knotholes. Marine plywood is ideal for outdoor furniture and decorative elements, like planters or benches

is the most durable type available. It uses hardwoods to create strong boards that can resist heat and moisture. Aircraft plywood is made of very thin veneers, which keep it light and flexible while providing significant strength. As such, it is suited for making airplanes, boats, and furniture meant to hold heavy weights..

⁃ It is available in different thicknesses ranges from 6mm to 32mm. ⁃ Plywood usually made out of different wood species. ⁃ It is less susceptible to water damage than MDF. ⁃ It can be easily polished or painted. ⁃ It can provide smooth surface for laminate or veneer to stick on. ⁃ It can be cut in any shapes. ⁃ It is resistive to shrinking, warping, twisting and cracking. ⁃ It is available in large size compared to hard wood. ⁃ It is economical as compared to solid wood.

CONS OF plywood

⁃ For common people, it is difficult to judge which wood veneer has been used for making the plywood. ⁃ It is costlier as compared to block board or particleboard.

⁃ It often get splinter from the edges during transportation. ⁃ It is quite difficult to cut. ⁃ Water may damage Moisture Resistant (MR) grade plywood.

⁃ It is more expensive than Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF). ⁃ Because the layers of veneers are seen at the edges, edges have to be finished either with laminate or veneer.

plywood is made by layering and gluing many thin pieces of wood together in a particular way that makes it especially strong

. Most construction plywood will have a density in the range of 400 kg/m3 to 700 kg/ m3. Thus a 2400mm × 1200mm × 12mm panel could typically weigh between 14kg and 24kg.

The density of plywood is not normally controlled as part of the product specification but is a function of the species of timber used

Lots of construction projects call for plywood. It’s a favorite material because it’s both strong and light. Unlike the other lumber we’ve been discussing, plywood is not wood cut straight from the tree..
