Rožnava is a small town, it is located in the southeast of Slovakia. Rožňava used to be a mining town which is shown in its architecture and the Mining museum . The town has about 19, 000 inhabitants. The town is surrounded by the mountains with the highest peak called Volovec and the National Park of Slovensky Kras (The Slovak Karst).

As already mentioned the coat of arms is closely related to the history of the town . The 2 hammers symbolize the mining history and 3 roses symbolize a legend of how a miner invisioned and found a ton of gold under a triple rose and decided to create a mine here and after that it became a town.

1.TOWN TOWER

The town tower is in the centre of the Town Square which is square shaped. The tower was built to protect the people form the Turkish invaders . It was built in 1654 and it stands till now.

Its 38m tall

It is located on the northern edge of the town . There is a total of 14 stop chapels that show the way of Jesus and how he carried his cross.The stop chapels are numbered from 1 to 14 in Roman numbers and you are supposed to follow them until you get to the top where you get a beautiful view of the whole town .

2.The Calvary (Way of the Cross)

It is located near the town square . Here you can see how miners worked in the past and also how they work today. You can even step into a fake mineshaft . The building was built in 1905 and it is still a mining museum today.

4. Skalisko(Volovske hills)

the peak is called "Skalisko" its height is 1,293 m. You climb up when you are longing for some movement or for the beautiful viewes of the surroundings.
