A total of 170,000 forces were engaged, 108,000 were the unions and 62,000 were the confederates. The first four days consisted of more major attacks, and the last eight days were minor attacks. On June 7th, Lee and Grant settled for a two hour truce so that they could get their wounded soldiers, few were found alive. Even with the mass amount of casualties, Grant ordered an attack on the Virginia Central Railroad. He later stated that he regretted his decision because of the amount of people lost. There were around 17,332 casualties, 12,737 Union and 4,595 Confederates. The Confederate army won Cold harbor.

This battle was one of the last military victories that Lincoln needed to issue the emancipation proclamation. With the amount of casualties that happened during the war, doctors were very overwhelmed and only a couple nurses could get the much needed supplies on the battlefield before daytime.

Battle Of Shiloh

Vicksburg This battle split the Confederacy in half because the Mississippi river is what connected the two halves of the south and the Union had full control over the river during this time. The Confederacy surrendered this war after 47 days, causing the union to win. There were a total of 110,000 forces engaged at this war, 77,000 unions, and 33,000 Confederate forces. The union planned for a quick victory because of their strategies although the Confederate army put up quite a fight. There were about 37,273 casualties most belonging to the Confederates, although most of these were missing or captured people.

Gettysburg Address This speech was given by Abraham Lincoln on November 19, 1863. This was given in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, dedicated to the Soldiers National Cemetery, which is now the Gettysburg National Cemetery. This speech was mostly dedicated to those who died at the battle of Gettysburg, also named the bloodiest battle. The cemetery is where over 3,500 were laid to rest and he wanted to honor that with a speech showing that these soldiers died with a purpose. The speech brought up how the people before them fought for this country, so he would do whatever possible to keep it together and peaceful.
