HOW TO ACCESS ONENOTE OneNote is your one-stop shop to find ALL of the notes for Algebra 1. It is our virtual Notebook where I will keep and share ALL notes and resources with you. Once you have opened your Algebra 1 OneNote for the first time, you will have access to ALL of the guided notes and study guides for this class and will be able to use EVERYTHING there to help you while taking assessments in edio. OneNote will also have some extra practice worksheets and sometimes there will be some extra credit available in there! There will not always be practice worksheets and extra credit, but when there are they can be found in OneNote. To access our Class Notebook in OneNote:

  1. Go to the Resources tab in our class under Progress on the sidebar.
  2. Click on "Launch in New Window where you see the OneNote icon shown below.
  3. You will be guided to our Algebra I with Miss Maleski 23-24 Class notebook.
Please let Miss Maleski know if you have any further concerns accessing OneNote as soon as possible. You can also click HERE for a tutorial another Algebra 1 teacher made for you!. Once you have accessed OneNote from here, you can continue to access it from here or from the OneNote app on your computer! I strongly suggest using the OneNote for Windows 10 app on your computer. Please watch this video to learn how to find this app, pin it to your desktop, and access your notebook this way. Click here to access a Genially you can reference that is ALL about one note. Guided Notes and Study Guides Guided Notes and Study Guides are a great tool to use in Algebra 1! These can be found in OneNote and once they are completed, you may use them to help you while taking assessments in Algebra. Guided Notes:
  • The guided notes go directly along with the lesson in edio. For example, if the lesson being completed in edio today was 2.3.5, that means you should look at the Unit 2 Topic 3 Guided notes. All of the lessons for Unit 2 Topic 3 will be in that document.
Study Guides:
  • Study guides for quizzes and tests can be found in OneNote. The questions on these study guides are VERY SIMILAR to what you will see on a quiz or test. Once the study guide is filled out, you may reference it while taking the assessment it is for.
Students can use OneNote for anything they would do in a typical binder or notebook. Some of my suggestions are:
  • Print paper copies of notes to follow along with lessons
  • Take class notes in their personal student section
    • significantly easier if they have a stylus and 2 monitors to watch and write at the same time
  • Work 1-on-1 with the teacher in a tutoring session
    • can also use for async feedback if a student wants you to check some work
  • Complete any bonus work or corrections for teacher feedback
    • ALWAYS tell the teacher when finished - we will not be notified
Caretaker access to OneNote I love when caretakers engage in their student’s learning so I want you to have access to OneNote as well. This link, will allow you to view the Content Library. I put all copies of blank notes in the Content Library, as well as Helpful Resources, Bonus Opportunities, and Instructions for Assessment Corrections. Everything you or your student may need access to on a daily basis is there! If you would like to keep up with your student’s personal OneNote notebook so you can see if/how they are using it, please email me back and I can send you a personal link for your student. Again, this link will only allow you to view their work, not make changes, but it is still a great way for you to be involved this year!

Need Extra Help? Help on Assessments: If you need some extra support in Algebra 1, even if you are stuck on a quiz or test, please reach out to me via edio chat, email, or by phone. You can also book a 30-minute meeting with me by clicking HERE. Join the Math Remediation Club! You can meet bi-weekly with a high school math teacher to get some extra help on some topics you may want to go over to help you in the future. Evening Support Room: Image Caption Monday through Thursday you can get help from the evening support room. Check out the information that is listed on the image to the right.

Keystone Prep In the Spring, CCA offers Algebra 1 Prep through the Algebra 1 Keystone Club. More information will be in the second semester so stay tuned!

Class Time Our class will be from 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm Monday through Friday. You do not need to have your camera on, but Miss Maleski would love to see all of your amazing faces! The only time we will not have class is on a test day or if Miss Maleski is absent. If Miss Maleski is absent, the recording for the class will appear at 2:00 am the day of the lesson. It will show up on your calendar in edio that we have class at 2:00 am, but you do not actually have class at that time. That is just when the recording will appear for you.

Class Materials & Expectations Calculators:

  • All students are allowed to use a calculator. Students are provided with a TI-30XIIS calculator, like the one in the picture, in their course materials box. It is highly recommended that students use this calculator over any other calculator in the course as they will be taught how to use it for some mathematical calculations and phone calculators can often give the incorrect answer. Students are also allowed to use this when taking the Algebra and Biology Keystone Exams.
Materials: All students will receive the following as course materials from CCA that are needed for Algebra 1:
  • Algebra 1 Lesson Companion Book
  • Algebra 1 Extra Practice Workbook
  • Calculator
  • Ruler
  • Graph Paper
  • Colored Pencils
  • Scissors
If you find that you are missing some of the materials after they arrive, please reach out to your teacher. If you are still waiting on your course materials, typically the will arrive a day or two after your CCA issued laptop. Lessons: Each lesson in the Algebra 1 course will be divided into different day bundles. Understanding the purpose of each day item in the bundle and what to expect can help you develop your skills as you progress through the course. Most lesson days will include the following: Warm Up, Explore, and Skill Builder/Practice. Practice and Skill Builders may not appear every day. They may possibly be replaced by Knowledge Checks, quiz reviews (the day before a quiz), quizzes, or assignments throughout the lesson. The Warm Up, Explore, and Skill Builder/Practice are graded for completion, but you should still review the feedback left by your teacher and what the correct answers are.
  • Warm up: provides a practice or thought-provoking activity to help get started with the day's lesson.
  • Explore: the core material being covered for the day will give you a change to engage with the topic, discover new information, and show you what you learned throughout the lesson.
  • Practice and Skill Builders: the practice portion will allow you to practice problems from the current and previous lessons. Skill Builders will give you the option to choose from one to three different activities to explore different ways of doing problems, dig deeper into a concept, practice prior knowledge, and choose many other options as the course progresses.
For more information about how our class is structured in edio, please check out Lesson 1.1.3. Guided Instruction/Live Classroom:
  • Attending live:
    • You do not need to have your camera on, but Miss Maleski would love to see your smiling face!
    • You can chat using the Zoom chat, and if you have a question, feel free to raise your hand in Zoom. When Miss Maleski calls on you, you can ask your question in either the zoom chat, or unmute yourself!
    • If you attend the guided instruction live, you must attend the entire time and participate to earn your points for that day. However, you still must complete the Skill Builder and Practice on your own.
    • If you are more than 10 minutes late to class, you will be expected to complete all of the questions in that lesson to earn your points. If you do not, you will not earn your points for the lesson. Technology issues happen, so if you are having internet issues, please reach out to Miss Maleski as soon as possible. However, you will still need to complete all of the questions in the lesson.
  • Not Attending Live:
    • If you cannot attend live, you must complete all of the questions in the lesson before submitting to be able to earn your points. Do not skip ANY questions otherwise, edio will automatically give you 0 points. You may use the recording to help you complete the assignments for that day. This includes any Nearpods, Classkicks, or Kahoots that were completed during our Live Classroom days that do not have a skill builder, lesson, or practice. There will be a self-paced version you can complete located in edio.
Miss Maleski does keep track of who attends class and how long they stay. Nearpod, Classkick, and Kahoots also lets her know if you actually completed every question. If you ever have any issues, please reach out to Miss Maleski.

Assessments: Assessments: Assessments are worth 65% of your overall grade in Algebra 1. There are four different kinds of assessments in Algebra 1: Assignments, Projects, Quizzes, and Tests.

  • Assignments
    • Worth 10% of your overall grade
  • Projects
    • Worth 10% of your overall grade
  • Quizzes
    • Worth 20% of your overall grade
  • Tests
    • Worth 25% of your overall grade
If you do not show any work for any question that is NOT matching, hotspot label, or multiple-choice, you will not receive any credit. Have any anxiety about taking assessments in Algebra? HAVE NO FEAR! OneNOTE is Here! You are allowed to use ANYTHING that is available to you in OneNote to help you while taking your assessments.

Retakes and Corrections Any time we have a quiz or a test, you will have some options to be able to earn your points back! They are through Retakes and Corrections! So what are Retakes and Corrections??? Check out the info below! NOTE: Retakes will not be available until late October when edio gets an update, but you can still complete corrections in the meantime. Retakes (Beginning in Late October): If you would like, you can retake any assessment in our Algebra 1 course! This is something beginning at the end of October!

  • So how do retakes work?
    • Retakes allow you to improve your grade on an assessment in Algebra 1. This gives you the opportunity to not only improve your grade on the assessment but also your overall grade in the class!
  • How many retakes do I get?
    • You only get ONE retake per assessment.
  • Do I have to do a retake?
    • No! You have the choice to accept or decline a retake. I will automatically assign a retake to you if you get a D or lower. If you get a C or higher on your assessment, please reach out to me via edio chat or email to ask for a retake.
  • What if I don't do that well on the retake but still want to improve my score?
    • You can complete corrections! Check out how to do that below!
Any time we have a quiz or a test, there will always be corrections! Corrections are designed for you to learn from your mistakes and be able to earn some points back on your assessments! Please know that in order to be able to complete corrections, you must have taken the assessment first in order to earn your points back. Corrections: Corrections are a great way to improve your score on any assessment in our course. Corrections can be accessed in our Algebra 1 Course OneNote. There are more specific directions located in the "Assessment Corrections" section of our OneNote, but each assessment where corrections are allowed will include directions on what is needed for each question you are correcting and examples. There will also be a video of me going over the assessment, which you can use to help you with completing corrections, BUT you must message me first in order to obtain it. It will not be available in OneNote. If you need some help with corrections in OneNote, please CLICK HERE for a short video. It is HIGHLY recommended that you complete corrections if you get lower than a 70% on a quiz or test. For each question that you lost points on, you can correct. In order to earn points back for that question, you must:
  1. Write down the question number you are correcting
  2. Write down all of the correct work with the correct answer*
  3. Write at least one sentence explaining what your mistake was.
*Note: This includes any multiple choice, matching, hotspot label, etc. You are essentially redoing the problem so you have to show your work. To find feedback on your older quizzes and tests, check out the video in the "How to Find Teacher Feedback" icon in this Genially! Coming soon is a video example of how to complete corrections.

Extra Credit Throughout the school year, there will be numerous extra credit opportunities! While some will be in edio, most will be in our class OneNote under the Extra Credit tab in our Content Library. Directions for what you need to do, how to get your extra credit points, and how to notify Miss Maleski when you have completed the work will be located in OneNote.

Academic Integrity Policy On every single quiz and test you ever take in Algebra 1, you will see a question similar to what is on the right. You are allowed to use ANYTHING available in OneNote to help you or you can ask me for help, but you are not allowed to get help from an outside source, and that includes another person. See below for what happens if you violate the academic integrity policy: Consequences of Violation*:

  • First Violation:
    • You will receive an automatic 0 on the questions where you have violated the CCA Academic Integrity Policy. You will also receive an edio chat message as a warning. You may still complete corrections for any other questions that are incorrect, but not the one(s) that violated the Academic Integrity Policy.
  • Second Violation:
    • You will receive an automatic 0 on the ENTIRE assessment. Your family will also get an email home about this instance. You are not allowed to complete corrections on the assessment.
  • Third and Beyond Violations:
    • You will receive an automatic 0 on the ENTIRE assessment. Your family will be emailed once again, and you will be reported to the assistant principal. You are not allowed to complete corrections on the assessment.
*If you feel that there has been a misunderstanding, please book a ZOOM meeting with Miss Maleski by clicking HERE and she would be happy to meet with you to discuss the question(s). Your camera must be on during this meeting.
