As a result, their functions are mainly representative and symbolic. They are the Head of State of the United Kingdom and other 14 oversea territories known as Commonwealth Realms, which includes countries like Australia, Canada, Solomon Island, New Zealand, among others. Moreover, they are responsible for receiving the Head of State of other countries, they are the Head of the Protestan Church and they must be politically neutral.

The reality

Who are the members of the Royal Family?

The members of the Royal Family who hold official duties maintain their support for The King in his various State and national responsibilities, just as they did for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth for numerous years. Furthermore, they undertake significant endeavors in the domains of public service and charitable work on their own accord.

Each year working Members of the Royal Family carry out over 2,000 official engagements in the UK and overseas. These engagements vary greatly, most of them consist in:

Their roles

Frequently, the Royal Family members assume official obligations within the United Kingdom and abroad on behalf of the Monarch when they cannot attend events in person, such as State funerals or national celebrations, or conduct visits aimed at reinforcing Britain's diplomatic and economic ties.

Overseas visits

In addition, the Royal Family assumes a crucial function by providing support and motivation to the public and charitable sectors. Approximately 3,000 organisations have a member of the Royal Family serving as their patron or president. This extensive range of organisations spans a diverse range of subjects from education to the environment, hospitals to housing. This enables the Royal Family members to engage with individuals from various national and local backgrounds, and gain insight into the issues they encounter.

Supporting the charity sector

Recognising and providing support for the Armed Services is another vital role fulfilled by the Royal Family. They maintain official affiliations with numerous units of the Forces and regularly visit soldiers, sailors, and airmen serving both domestically and internationally.

Conclusion

Fun facts

And of course... the Royal Family has had lots of scandals.

Famously known as "Tampongate", it is a scandal that took place in 1989 and involved the current King Charles III and the Queen consort Camilla. It damaged their reputation not only because of the explicit tone of the phone conversation, but also because Charles was married to Diana of Wales at that time while Camilla was married to Andrew Parker Bowles.

Conclusion

Personal opinion

  • For the future
    • We can expect the support for the monarchy to decrease even more
    • We could even reach the abolition of the monarchy, but in the long run
  • Our opinion

Conclusion

If the name of the owner of a royal title or a nobilityone appears, we use the first letter of these titles goes in capital letters

What to have in mind when it comes to translation!

Even if a proper noun appears, the first letter of these titles doesn't go in capital letters.

However, in Spanish...

EXAMPLES:More tea, Your Majesty?Of course, Your Royal Highness.I’m making tea biscuits for Her Majesty. Will His Grace the Duke of Norfolk be making an appearance?

- Forms of address:Capitalize forms of address and honorifics are used to address royals and nobles:- Your Majesty- Your Highness- Your LordshipSuch forms of respectful address are always capitalized, even when used to refer to someone in the third person.

What is another important grammar fact?

Expressions such as "her royal highness" or "majesty" are written in lower case. However, when they are not accompanied by the proper name, they can be written with a capital letter: "su majestad" or "Su Majestad", but "su majestad Isabel II".

Meanwhile, in Spanish...

  • What are your thoughts on the future of the British monarchy?
  • Do you think a monarchy is a good system nowadays or should it change? Why?

It is debate time!
