Important Details
1. Britain profited off of the selling of opium to China to buy more tea and then sell it to profit off of both the tea trade and now opium. 2. Emperor realized the effect of opium on China so he cut off opium at its source. He also arrested smugglers, forced drug rehab, closed opium dens, got rid of the pipes used to take the drug, then took on the issue with Britain. 3. Opium caused issues like bankruptcy, issues getting jobs, and issues with traders. The main issue was with Britain as they continually sold the drug to the Chinese despite the warning and law from China banning the drug in the country.
The Opium war ended in 1842 because of the Treaty of Nanking. The Treaty of Nanking was a peace treaty which marked the end of the first Opium war between the United Kingdom and China.
