Schrodinger's Assumptions

hypotheses

The Schrodinger's cat is a thought experiment that was proposed by an Austrian physicist in 1935. The experiment is intended to illustrate the strange and paradoxical nature of Quantum Mechanics.

THE CAT

Schrodinger's cat can be alive and dead at the same time

As well, an electron can spin right and left at the same time

Describes the energy of the electron and the probability of its position in space and time

Schrodinger's Equation

cLASSICALLY

In classical physics, if I know the force of a car, I can determine its momentum and position at the same time.

F = ma

On the other hand, It is not possible to determine both the momentum and position of the particle in Quantum Mechanics at the same time.

In Quantum Mechanics

Particle in one-dimensional box

application

  • Assume that we have a one-dimensional box made of electromagnetic field, and there is a particle inside the box.
  • This particle is in Quantum scale.
  • The exact position of this particle cannot be determined.
  • The particle's position have huge number of probabilities.
  • These probabilities can be described as a wave.

Particle in 1-D box

  • Nodes are specific positions in the system in which the particle cannot appear.
  • number of nodes = n-1 (n is the principal quantum number)
