Vincent Van Gogh

Vincent Van Gogh was born on the 30th March 1853 in Groot Zundert (Holland). When he was younger he worked as an art delear but then he had a religious vocation and he studied theology.

When he had 25 years old he went to preach in Belgium where he saw miners and he started to paint workers and their poor. The most famous painting of this period is "The potato eaters"

In the 1886 he moved to Paris to his brother Theo. Here he started to use bright colors and he painted portraits and scenes of the city. In 1889 he went in Provence where he drew landscapes full of light. Here he met his friend Paul Gauguin and they had a discussion. Van Gogh after this event was disturbed and he cut off his ear.

Then he went in a mental istitution in Saint-Remì where he met Mr Gachet who helped him and encouraged Van Gogh to continue painting. During this period he wrote some letters to his brother Theo.

In the summer of 1890, while he was painting, some birds disturbed him and he took a gun. Some time later people find Van Gogh dead because he had shot himself.

Vincent's room in Arles is the name of three painting of Vincent Van Gogh drawn between 1888 and 1889 . The first of this painting was made during the period when the artist stayed in Arles and the other two was reaized when he was in the mental istitution of Saint-Remì. In this pictures we can see Vincent's bedroom with his bed, two chairs, a table, a open window and a straw hat wich he painted one year before in a portraits of himself.
