APPLICATIONS

Walmart analyzed the buying patterns of its customers when a hurricane was approaching. They were able to identify the type of products their customers wanted and in what quantity, based on the level of alert that the news broadcasts provided on a daily basis. They collected this information for years, and in 2012 the supermarket was able to predict with accuracy the volume of supplies needed to meet their customers’ demands due to the hurricane. The supermarket’s management of this crisis has been the subject of study on numerous occasions.
