- Can you define pollution in 3 words?
Defining pollution and climate change
01
- It is the presence of any substance in air, water, soil, or food which threatens the health of human, animal and plant life.
- Pollution often results from pollutants like carbon monoxide, but can also arise from street lights or the noise from traffic.
- Pollutants can be natural, such as volcanic ash. They can also be created by human activity, such as trash or runoff produced by factories. Pollutants damage the quality of air, water, and land.
Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that causes adverse change.

- What do you mean for climate change?
Defining pollution and climate change
01
- Climate change could refer to a particular location or the planet as a whole;
- Climate change may cause weather patterns to be less predictable;
- There are lots of factors that contribute to Earth’s climate. Scientists agree that Earth has been getting warmer in the past 50 to 100 years due to human activities like burning fossil fuels, such as natural gas, oil, and coal. Burning these materials releases what are called greenhouse gases into Earth’s atmosphere. There, these gases trap heat from the sun’s rays inside the atmosphere causing Earth’s average temperature to rise. This rise in the planet's temperature is called global warming.
Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and typical weather patterns.
CLIMATE CHANGE
Do you think Climate Change is an important topic to be discussed? Why/Why not?Do you think Climate Change is affecting / will affect your everyday life in some way?
Importance of addressing climate change
In your opinion why is pollution an important issue?

Title 2
In your everyday life what do you feel most contaminated by?
LET'S THINK ABOUT OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE..
NOTE: Use the video whether you need it to revitalize the discussion among the students and to give new imput.
About contamination
How do you think pollution damages your health? How many people do you think die each year from pollution?
THE IMPACT OF POLLUTION & CLIMATE CHANGEon human health and the environment
03
It is difficult to estimate the real number of deaths, because pollution, climate change and human health are intrinsically interlinked.
Some researches demonstrate that pollution is responsible for 9 million premature deaths per year, accounting for one in six deaths.

Beware, we are watching
Environmental problems as a matter of worst living conditionsEP as a matter of social injusticeEP as a matter of unsustainability
Some tips to stimulate a debate:
Focus on existential anxiety about one’s health and future. Focus on the future threat challenges;Focus on the expectation for the future (positive / negative)
Social and economic implications of environmental problems
Pollution/climate change are matters of Environmental Injustice
- Which are the most urgent environmntal problems to be addressed?
- Why do you think it's important to take action against climat change and pollution?
