Interlocking Spurs
What are interlocking spurs?
A Spur is a Portion of highland that slopes downward and projects at a staight angle of 90 degrees towards a river.Interlocking Spurs are convex slpes in which the river winds and bends around when it meet resistance from harder rocks.Interlocking Spurs are found in a river's upper course.
How are they formed?
They are formed by fluvial erosion (the separation of river bed and side material) and are found in the upper course of a river where the rocks are hard. When the river is small and has less erosive power, this formation occurs.
There is more vertical erosion in the upper course. The river runs through the valley. The river will bend around areas of hard rock that are more difficult to erode. This results in interlocking land spurs that connect like the teeth of a zip.
