A copyright is a right to copy when said in simplest form. This means the original creators and the people they give authorisation to are the only ones with exclusive rights to reproduce the work. The use of creative commons throws out the hassle of asking for permission from creators every time you want to use their work. It provides their licensing tools for the creators' use for free.
