Giovanni Verga was born in Catania to wealthy family. When Garibaldi arrived in Sicily , Verga abbandoned his university study to support the Unity of Italy Verga is the first exponent of verism and he had a pessimistic vews of life.

Govanni Verga nacque a Catania da famiglia benestante. Quando Garibaldi arrivò in Sicilia, Verga abbandonò gli studi universitari per sostenere l'Unità d'Italia. Verga è il primo esponente del verismo e aveva una visione della vita pessimista.

Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth in 1812. He adopted a pen name " Boz " and published " Sketches by Boz " a collection of articles described London's people. Dikens criticized te social evils of is times and described the appalling living conditions in workhouses. He died in London in 1870

Verga described the world of the poor farmers and miners living in Sicily in the 1870s and 1880s.

Iqbal Masih came from a poor family in Pakistan. When he was four years old, his father sold him to a carpet factory for $12. He was chained to a loom, beaten and forced to work 12 hours a day. He never went to school. Six years later he escaped and began a campaign against child bonded labour. He told the students of Massachusetts about the lives of child labourers around the world.A few months later, in Pakistan, Iqbal was shot dead while riding his bibycle near his grandmother’s house. He was 12 years old.It seems he was probably killed by the carpet mafia.

Iqbal Masih proveniva da una famiglia povera Pakistan. Quando aveva quattro anni, il suo suo padre lo ha venduto a una fabbrica di tappeti per 12 dollari. Fu incatenato a un telaio, picchiato e costretti a lavorare 12 ore al giorno. Lui mai andai a scuola. Sei anni dopo è scappato e ha iniziato a campagna contro il lavoro minorile coatto. Raccontò agli studenti del Massachusetts la vita dei bambini lavoratori nel mondo. Pochi mesi dopo, in Pakistan, Iqbal fu ucciso a colpi d'arma da fuoco mentre cavalcava la sua bicicletta vicino alla sua casa della nonna. Aveva 12 anni vecchio. Sembra che sia stato probabilmente ucciso dal mafia dei tappeti.
