ÍNDICE

Our school is a big centre. We attend students from Compulsory Secondary Education and Vocational Training Courses to those who want to go to university ( A- Levels). Moreover, we have Adult Basic Studies for working people in the evening. However, your only duty is to help students from 12 to 18, in the morning or afternoon. Although our timetable is from 8,30 to 15,00 , you´ll only have 12 hours a week , so that your weekend can start on Fridays. Our school is very active with regards to extracurricular activities (Christmas contests, Halloween,”chirigotas”, lunch meetings among teachers, anniversaries celebrations, trips around Spain and European Union, hiking, skiing to Sierra Nevada, our library Instagram (@bibliotecaiesmanuelreina, @historias_del_ies_manuel_reina

You will help with several subjects: Music, Maths, Geography and History, Biology, Philosophy, Technology,Physical Education. You will be always with the teacher in the classroom ,working with a prepared lesson you have arranged with the teachers. But don´t worry! You don´t have to be a specialist in so many subjects.Your only task is to help with the vocabulary and pronunciation, being a support for the teachers so that students can practise oral skills.

04. SUBJECTS TO COLLABORATE

Puente Genil is a town of 30.000 inhabitants with 14 primary and secundary schools, 7 of which teach bilingual education. This means there are young auxiliary teachers from several nationaties who come to live here every year. Puente Genil belongs to the province of Córdoba. We are in the centre of Andalusia, and it is for that reason we are very well communicated with the rest of the Andalusian towns: one hour to Málaga beaches, 1.15 to Seville, 45 minutes to Córdoba, 2 hours to Granada..We have means of transport such as coaches or AVE, train of high speed. Málaga is less than an hour by train and Córdoba is 20 minutes by AVE. Two international airports: Sevilla to 1 hour and ¼ and Málaga to less than an hour by train. However, young people usually travel by BLA BLA CAR, an application for sharing other person´s car , which is cheaper and really safe.

05. town details

As it is a small town, you will be able to come to school on foot. The school is in the centre of town, so you have easy access to all the facilities (clothes and shoes shops, sport centres, music and singing classes, library, supermarkets, health centre…)- Where can you live? Here, renting for a flat or apartament is not quite expensive, there are a lot of options.- Possibility of lodging with a family. Although this option is less usual, some auxiliaries have chosen to live with a family, so they have been able to know our customs and traditions first-hand.- Possibility of sharing a flat with school teachers? There are always language assistant teachers who share flats. They usually choose to live here in Puente Genil. There are also young teachers from other towns in Andalucía who come to work here at our school. So you can share a flat if you like. There is a big choice.

07. CONTACT WITH OTHER AUXILIARIES

“ I´ve really enjoyed my time at Manuel Reina. I´ve learnt both about teaching English, but also about Spanish culture and the Spanish school system. It´s turned out to be a great cultural Exchange opportunity as I´ve explained some aspects of US culture and been able to hear what students think about it.I would definitely recommend the experience” CLARE COLLINS “ My stay in Puente Genil has been a great experience. Puente Genil is such a beautiful little town filled with amazing people. Helping teach English at IES Manuel Reina has been lots of fun it doesn´t even feel like work. The kids are sweet and always keep me laughing. The teachers are wonderful and go out of their way to make me feel welcome and included. I would definitely recommend Puente Genil and IES Manuel Reina to future auxiliaries , I´m sure they will enjoy their time here as much as I have! KENDALL HYDOCK

08. SOME EXPERIENCES WITH CONVERSATION AUXILIARIES

“ Teaching as an auxiliary at Manuel Reina has been such a rewarding experience. The teachers have lots of knowledge to share and they have been so helpful guiding me through my first time in the classroom. The students are so much fun, they are full of energy and love talking to you about their many interests. I feel priviledged for having been able to guide them in their learning and watch them grow. I really couldn´t have asked for a better school” ASHTON OTTENBREIT “ As an auxiliar . I was meant to be at Manuel Reina for a year, but I felt so at home in Puente Genil-so welcome,so valued, so inspired that I ended up renewing the contract for two more years, the maximum allowed. A decade later, I still live in Andalusia with the love of my life , whom I met at Manuel Reina. It is no exaggeration to say that my time there changed the course of my life” CHARLIE GEER
