Every 40 days a language dies. This “catastrophic” loss is being amplified by the climate crisis, according to linguists. If nothing is done, conservative estimates suggest that half of all the 7,000 languages currently spoken will be extinct by the end of the century. SDG 13 strives to tackle climate change and preserve these areas and their rich culture. Unfortunately, tourism plays a major role in the destruction of these minority communities both actively and passively.

It can be argued that over tourism is simply a result of bad planning by government and tourism organisations. However, this does not denounce the incredibly real impacts of this issue on the environment and host communities. Economic, social, and ecological negative impacts are abundant.
