Samaná

+ info

Samaná, one of the mains tourist poles in the country

Located in the north of the Dominican Republic is the stunning Samana Bay. Despite being a lesser-known destination, it is nowadays gaining more and more popularity among travelers. Like its companions Santo Domingo or Punta Cana, this bay is a paradise of white sands and turquoise waters. However, there is much more to do in Samana Bay than just enjoy the sun and sea. With stunning, lush vegetation, you can enjoy some nature of the most beautiful scenery in the world. You can opt for an idyllic mix of ocean-side relaxation, all-inclusive resorts, and excursions into the natural world that will leave you speechless

Los Haitises Park is a National Park of the Dominican Republic and is the largest and most impressive park in the country. It covers a massive area of up to 1600 square kilometers, full of mountains, mangroves, islets, and even caves. To get there, you can book a boat tour from Santa Barbara de Samaná – the trip takes about 30 minutes. Once there, you can discover all the natural wonders of the park: its mangrove forests, its famous islets, among which you cannot miss the Pájaro Key, and finally, the famous Taino Caves.

Las Terrenas is a small municipality in the northeast of the Dominican Republic, located on Samana Bay. This place is mainly famous for being the area with the most hotels and the most famous beaches on the coast. Its striking white sandy beaches and turquoise waters attract most travellers, who come to this part of the bay for a more relaxed and peaceful trip.

The surrounding area of Santa Bárbara de Samaná is filled with natural attractions, including El Limón waterfall, Los Haitises National Park, and the stunning beaches of Las Galeras, Playa Rincón, and Playa Bonita. Visitors to the area can also take boat tours to nearby islands, go whale watching (in season), or take part in a variety of water sports such as surfing, snorkeling, and kayaking.

You can do this activity if you travel to the bay from January to March, which is the time of year the whales are most commonly seen. You can watch the whales from a very short distance, on a ferry or a boat; these animals are more than used to the presence of tourists.

Whale watching

One of the main activities you can’t miss on your trip to Samaná Bay is a boat trip to enjoy humpback whale watching. It’s not surprising considering that Samana is one of the largest sanctuaries for these impressive animals

Samaná is such an amazing place that you have to visit at least once in your life. I think is one of the most complete tourist poles in the Dominican Republic because of its historical and cultural importance and its enjoyable beaches, hotels, and natural attractions. I hope I can go someday to learn more about our history and enjoy our beautiful beaches and natural attractions such as El Limón waterfall and Los Haitises National Park
