The landscape of Greece is characterized by its rugged terrain, dramatic coastline, and numerous islands. About 80% of the country is covered by mountains, with the Pindus mountain range running down the center of the mainland. Greece has many beautiful beaches and a long coastline, with the Aegean Sea to the east and the Ionian Sea to the west. The country also has several major rivers, including the Evros, Nestos, and Acheloos.
Greeks enjoy playing and watching different sports, especially soccer. Greece is also the perfect location for swimming, sailing, and windsurfing!
Greece is a country where people enjoy a variety of traditional dishes made from fresh ingredients. Lamb, fish, olives, and cheese are staples in Greek cuisine, along with olive oil, lemon juice, and tomatoes. Ladherà, which are dishes cooked with olive oil, are particularly popular. Greeks share some dishes with the Turks, including souvlaki, moussakas, and gýros. Feta, a soft and crumbly cheese made from sheep and goat's milk, is used in many Greek dishes, including salads and pastries. During Easter, Greeks traditionally enjoy roast lamb and kokoretsi, which is lamb liver, lungs, and spleen wrapped in intestines and roasted on a spit. Baklavás, a thin, flaky pastry filled with honey and nuts, is a popular dessert. Kids in Greece enjoy a variety of snacks, including chocolate, candy, potato chips, and fast foods like hamburgers.
Easter is one of the most important holidays in Greece. It is celebrated with special church services, feasts, and a parade.
The Old Palace is located in Athens, Greece. It was built in 1843 for King Otto. The Nestos River is one of the largest rivers in Greece.
