Sami Tribe

Sami culture is one of the oldest cultures coming from the region of Sápmi that includes northern parts of Sweden, Finland, Norway and the Kola Peninsula in Russia. The Samis are descendants of nomadic people who lided in the northern Scandinavia for thousands of years.

The Samis have their traditional outfits known as the Gakti. They wear them at parties, festivals, weddings and other special occasions. There are nine different Sami languages. However, now only 3 of them mainly speak.

The economy of the Sami people mainly depended on reindeer herding. In the past, they migrated from place to place with their reindeer herds. Now, they have works like hunting or fishing in the fiords, and they still herding reindeers.

The yoik is an especial sami song. Each joik is meant to reflect or evoke a person, animal, or place.
