AVID 6th has been staying consistent with keeping an organized binder, staying diligent with grade checks, and working on time management with planners. We have dove into Costa’s levels of thinking/questioning by analyzing Cinderella. We have now moved on to examining other situations to further develop the skill of high-level questioning. Next, we will cycle back to note-taking as we want to continue to strengthen that important skill.

They recently completed a career reserach project. After researching potential career options, taking some career quizzes' that coorelate to their interestes, they did research on a career of their choosing and created a project. Their project included pros and cons of the career, what day to day work entails, and starting salaries, etc.

AVID 9 students spent the month of February creating a persuasive, informational, or educational speech on a topic they are passionate about. Students spent a lot of time creating their outline, slideshow, and practicing with their peers. They focused on having an effective attention getter and conclusion along with various aspects of speech delivery. Conducting the speech forced many of our students to get out of their comfort zones and helped them build skills they never knew they had! Students rose to the occasion and delivered some fantastic speeches. We are now going to start our career readiness unit which includes having students do a mock interview.
