Introduction
what is 3d printing?
Introduction
3D printing technology is a method of creating a three dimentional object by translating a virtual solid model data into a physical model i n a quick and easy process The data is broken into a series of 2D cross-section of a finite thickness. (NB; The thinner each layer is, the closer the fnal part will be to the original). These cross-sections are than fed into AM machine so that they can be combined , adding them together in a layer by layer sequence to form a physical part.
objectives of the 3d printing lab
Introduction
To increaseing the variety of our plastic models. Anatomical plastic models are more expensive to buy therefore printing models has reduced the cost of buying plastic models.
What was the need of setting up a 3D printing lab at the UNAM School of Medicine? .
The University of Namibia School of Medicine at the Hage Geingob campus established a 3-D printing lab with the help of an Erasmus Plus grant from the European Union, to aid in the creation of 3-D models as a teaching aid and learning resources in place of cadaver dissection in Anatomy. Incorporating 3D printing practices in the tertiary health education system as a teaching aid improves students’ ability to grasp concepts better because they can view threedimensional anatomical objects from different angles and perspectives as compared to reading from books that have two-dimensional images. As a result, this increases students' attentiveness and interest in their learning journey. Write something here
Donations for cadavers have ceased due to the recent Covid-19 outbreak. Using cadavers for anatomy training comes with several limitations, such as their high cost, ethical issues, and the need for formalin preservation. Additional teaching support materials such as 3D printing technology are still needed, to improve student engagement and subject knowledge acquisition. Furthermore, improving the availability and accessibility of 3D models is required to support teaching.
Setting up of the 3d printing lab was made possible through funds received by the Dirisana grant.

The use of 3D printing in education
When dissection speciments are unavailable ,3D printed models offer a novel, accurate and effective substitut.
Imporoves overal understanding of Anatomy parts which also increases students learning interests.
Foster innovative new learning experiences for students.
Key tool in teaching and learning, opening oppportunities for new teaching practices in secondary and tertiary institutions

3 D printing offers a way for students to truly connect to the subject matter by physically manipulating ready printed teaching anatomical models.

EinScan H captures the full geometry of objects such as artwork or furniture with fine details. The high accuracy of scanned data up to 0.05mm and volumetric accuracy 0.1mm/m improves the precision of 3D modeling in a dense points cloud or polygon meshes.

Knowledge and skills required to run the 3D lab
In January 2022, Build Volumes trained three UNAM employees, Mr. Joseph Lakanemo, Mr Jan van der Merwe and Mr. Hansbert Hamutenya and two Welwitchia staff, Ms Valerie Garises and Vetumbuavi Ndjavera, on how to use the Ultimaker S3, Einscan 3D scanner, and Cura slicing software. They are currently in charge of the lab, supervising the daily printing process and post-processing, as well as being involved in the operation and maintenance of the 3D printer Write somthing here
