Her family lived not far from the Dynamo stadium. In winter, Maria asked friends for skates and skated on the ice at the stadium. Her talent was noticed by the head of the stadium. Then he gave her her first skates

Maria quicly grew as an athlete, she won prizes at competitions

By that time, the athlete already had her own family: husband and two daughters. The husband died at the front, the youngest daughter died. But Maria tried not to lose her heart. She devoted herself to her daughter and to work in the hospital, where she was engaged in special therapeutic gymnastics with the wounded, helping them recover sooner.

Everything changed with the beggining of the war

Maria was only the seventh. But already in 1945, Maria became a champion. And in 1948, the athlete became the world champion in speed skating!

In 1943, Maria was invited to Moscow for the national championship.

Maria left the big sport at the age of 34. She took up coaching.

On the eve of competition, Maria suffered a knee injury, but despite the pain, she still won.

Many of her students had great succes.

She was buried at the Vaganovsky cemetry

The great athlete died on March 25, 2011 at the age of 92.
