A nuclear weapon is a device. It uses a nuclear reaction to make an explosion. When a nuclear weapon explodes, it gives off four types of energy: a blast wave, intense light, heat and radiation.

On August 6, 1945, a uranium weapon, Little Boy, was dropped over the Japanese city of Hiroshima, and three days later, a plutonium weapon, Fat Man, was dropped over the Japanese city of Nagasaki.

Until today, Hiroshima and Nagasaki are the only two instances of nuclear weapons used in war.
Unfortunately, nuclear bomb burnt around 70% of all buildings and caused about 140,000 deaths by the end of 1945. Also, there was an increased number of cancer and chronic disease among the survivors.
