  • I used to go dancing every Saturday night when I was younger.
  • My feet didn't use to hurt the next day.
  • Did you use to stay out until late?

To talk about past habits or repeated actions or situations which have changed. Don't use it in the present. Use USUALLY.

Used to / didn't use to + infinitive

  • I would make sandcastles with my sister when I went to the beach when I was a child.
  • We wouldn't swim when the water was very cold.

Would + infinitive

You can also use Would to talk about habits in the past. Only with action verbs!

  • After 6 months in Dublin, I am used to having lunch at 12.30.
  • But I'm not used to driving on the left.

To talk about things you are accustomed to doing, or a new situation which is now familiar or less strange.

be used to + -ing (or noun / pronoun)

  • I'm getting used to getting up very early for my new job.
  • I think I'll never get used to these new glasses.

get used to + -ing

To talk about a new situation which is becoming familiar or less strange. You are in the process.
