THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MATERIALS AND MEDIUMS USED IN THE USC BFA 1 CURRICULUM IN PROMOTING THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOpment goals
01
introduction
01. introduction
The University of San Carlos Bachelor of Fine Arts first year students have four (4) major subjects. In particular, these are: FAD 1101 – Visual Perception, FAD 1102 – Techniques, FAD 1103 – Materials, and FAD 1104 – Philippine Arts. These major subjects each require different assignments and projects, and as the students call them, "plates”. Different subjects and different plates would mean that there is a number of various materials and mediums that are to be used, and in using these, may pose risks to the environment.
United Nations has issued seventeen (17) sustainable development goals for the world to achieve in order to “transform to a better world”. In these goals are “Good Health and Well-being” and “Responsible Consumption and Production”, which theresearchers have taken as a reference for this Information Analysis Project
The purpose of this study is to determine whether being a student of USC BFA 1 cancontribute to the goals through the materials and mediums used in the curriculum. It serves to rate and rank on a consumer-basis the effectiveness of these materials in mediums in promoting the sustainable development goals. Moreover, it also serves to suggest which materials and mediums may or may not be harmful to the user, and to the environment.
02
statement of the problem
This study is designed to determine the extent of effectiveness of Materials and mediums Used in the USC BFA 1 curriculum in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals.
02. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions:1. What are the current materials and mediums used by USC BFA 1 students in their curriculum? 2. What is the rate of advantage for the different materials and mediums used with regards to: a. Waste b. Health of the user c. Sustainability 3. What is the rate of disadvantage for the different materials and mediums used with regards to: d. Waste e. Health of the user f. Sustainability 4. What is the most common material or medium that USC BFA 1 students would consider as environment-friendly?
03
Objectives of the Study
2. To determine if the current materials and mediums used by USC BFA 1 students is practical in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals with regards to health concerns while in use. HO: The current materials and mediums used by USC BFA 1 students are not practical. HA: The current materials and mediums used by USC BFA 1 students are practical
1. To determine if the current materials and mediums used by USC BFA 1 students is practical in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals with regards to waste produced after use. HO: The current materials and mediums used by USC BFA 1 students are not practical. HA: The current materials and mediums used by USC BFA 1 students are practical.
03. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
4. To determine the rating of the current materials and mediums used by USC BFA 1 students in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals.
3. To determine the effectiveness of the current materials and mediums usedby USC BFA 1 students in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals. HO: The current materials and mediums used by USC BFA 1 students are not effective. HA: The current materials and mediums used by USC BFA 1 students are effective.
03. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

Statistical Treatment of Data
Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient – also known as “Pearson’s r”.
b. Health and Sustainability – Does the health of the user while using matter when determining if a material or medium is sustainable? The researchers used this formula by comparing Significant Question 2 (SQ2), with the question “Rate how healthy the materials are for you. (Does it have toxic chemicals? Does it itch your skin? And do you feel nauseous while using the material?)”to Significant Question 3 (SQ3), with the question “Rate how these mediums and materials promote a solution to pressing environmental issues and put sustainability at the core of your art.”
a. Waste and Sustainability – Does the waste produced matter when determining if a material or medium is sustainable? The researchers used this formula by comparing Significant question 1 (SQ1), with the question “Rate the process of using the medium and its waste after creating.” to Significant Question 3 (SQ3), with the question “Rate how these mediums and materials promote a solution to pressing environmental issues and put sustainability at the core of your art.”

The mean of the r-values is 0.26 and is interpreted as with “Weak Correlation”. It accepts the alternative hypothesis which means that the materials and mediums used in the USC BFA 1 curriculum is practica
