When a Leopard person first begins to learn spells, they are required to use a Juju knife. This knife will grant them power to perform most, if not all spells. A Juju knife choses its owner, so when Sunny was choosing her knife, it cut her.

Sugar Cream is the main librarian of the Obi Library in Leopard Knocks. Throughout the book, she has a few interactions with Sunny, and their relationship builds each time until Sugar Cream becomes Sunny's mentor.

Sunny loves to play soccer with her brothers, but whenever someone caught her playing, they shamed her because she was a girl. She was trying to enter an annual soccer game in Leopard Knocks, but was shamed because of the same reason. She entered anyway and ended up being the best one on the field.

The magnifying glass represents the mystery carried throughout the book regarding the ominous Black Hat. Sunny and her friends struggle with this mystery, and kept their eyes out for clues, which eventually led them up to their answer.

A spirit face represents physical embodiment of somebody's emotions. The spirit face comes from African ceremonial masks, and is special to each individual. For Sunny, her spirit face resembles the fiery flames of a sun, so it would be most appropriate representing her spirit face with a sun.

Nnedi Okrafor's Akata Witch shows that it takes time to become the person you want to be. Through a lot of trial and error, Sunny was able to go from an inexperienced, self conscious sorcerer to one that was able to defeat the main antagonist of the book.

Sunny had difficulty with finding the right group of people for her. Her old friends ended up turning their backs on her and bully her, and her father does not share the same love he does with her brothers to her. Additionally, she is albino, and she would always be made fun of because of this. She wants to be accepted for who she is and doesn't want to be compared to something she can be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbLLdy5cdmY
