• Scientists believe that HIV originally came from a virus particular to chimpanzees in West Africa during the 1930s, and originally transmitted to humans through the transfer of blood through hunting. Over the decades, the virus spread through Africa, and to other parts of the world.

World AIDS Day 2022 is being marked under the theme Equalize.

Signs of an HIV infection

• 2 to 6 weeks after HIV infection, the majority of persons have a brief flu-like illness that lasts for a week or two.
• HIV may stop causing symptoms once these ones go away, even if the infection still weakens your immune system.
• Since many HIV-positive individuals are unaware of their condition,
• Anyone who suspects they could be HIV positive should be tested.
• Regular tests are indicated for some persons because their risk is extremely high.
