The Sixth grade avid is doing amazing we are continuing to strengthen our organizational skills with planners and binders. We are also working on different study skills finding ways for students to best prepare for tests. Another skill we have been working on is public speaking, and they have been doing great with talking about random images and fabricating information on the spot.

Novemeber has been busy for our AVID 7 students! They participated in a team building murdery mystery activity, they each created their own AVID "students" to show what an AVID student should think, say, and have with them for class each day. We also paritipated in a gratitude lesson about giving back to others and showing appreciation.

8th grade AVID students were introduced to one of AVID's flagship features: the AVID Tutorial! AVID Tutorials are designed to help students with a point of confusion they are experiencing in one of their classes. Teams of AVID students form up to help each other out in a structured and collaborative way that develops stronger communication, organizational, and relationship building skills! They did a fantastic job!

AVID 9 just completed our financial literacy unit. Students built a solid foundation of skills that will serve them well as many of our students anticipate getting a job within the next year. Students learned why saving money now is critical in setting yourself up for future financial success. Students learned how to set a budget as well as the pros and cons of various types of investments. Our students were shocked to learn that if they start saving $155 a month at age 22 they can retire at 65 with a million dollars if you factor in an 8% annual growth rate on their retirement account. We are looking forward to a great month of December as we focus on refining the tutorial process!
