2012 During the first year of Services For Education (SFE) becoming independent from Birmingham City Council, two major things happened: Music Education Hubs were born!With Services For Education being the lead partner for the Hub in Birmingham. Find out more about Birmingham Music Education Partnership. Services For Education launched the Health for Life Programme. Birmingham schools are supported to teach and promote healthy eating and cooking, growing food and physical activity. Find out more about our Health For Life Programme.

2015 Music Makers launches, in partnership with OHMI. The OHMI (One Handed Musical Instrument) Trust is a UK-based charity pioneering the development and adaptation of musical instruments for people who are physically disabled. The Music Makers project helps children otherwise excluded by their disability to play an adapted instrument. Services For Education have partnered with the OHMI Trust for some years now and currently have 14 pupils in the city receiving 1:1 lessons for free through them. Read Cian's Story here.

2016 The launch of Youth Proms! With 5 consecutive nights at Symphony Hall. Our Youth Proms concerts take place every July and bring together over 3,000 young instrumentalists and singers aged 8 to 18, many of whom are members of our free ensembles. It provides all children in Birmingham with an opportunity to perform in a world-renowned concert hall, offering an authentic music experience like no other. Find out more about our ensembles, and how to support them here. Summer Sounds Launch. Summer Sounds is an annual event in partnership with Birmingham special schools. Each year around 5-6 Birmingham special schools are invited to the Midlands Arts Centre to perform in the Main Theatre and to share their music making.

2019 Another busy year for the team, Services For Education won a fantastic award and we launched two more charitable projects to reach adults with additional needs and children in Special Schools across Birmingham. Services For Education Scoop Top Award Services For Education was recognised for its ‘Excellence in Training and Education’ at the annual Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce awards, which celebrated its unique community initiatives and learning and development programmes. Tiger Tiger Project Launch Our Tiger Tiger project provides multi-sensory sessions for adults with additional needs (mld, sld, pmld, asd) aged 18 plus, in partnership with Open Theatre. 2020 Services For Education were determined to keep things going during the pandemic, so we went on a mission to "go digital" in both our music service and training for schools which was a very exciting time for us. We also got joined by some fantastic celebrity guests this year, who helped us with some unforgettable projects. A Year of Celebrity appearances! Glynn Purnell works with SFE on the Health For Life project and Jess Gillam and Nicola Benedetti join SFE for musical projects. First Ever Virtual Youth Proms Featuring over 500 ensembles members and with guest content from Jess Gillam, Band of the Royal Marines and Xhosa Cole. First SFE Live Digital Training Course For Schools Hosted by Jo Perrin, adviser at SFE and covering the new statutory requirements for Primary Statutory Relationships and Health Education in Primary Schools.

2021 While the world slowly started to get back to normal, Services For Education continued to use what they learnt over the previous years, to good practice. We went global! Delivering music tuition and online safeguarding courses across the world. We launched the wonderful Birmingham Inclusive Choir. Celebrating that everyone, no matter their abilities or disabilities, has their own way of sharing their voice. “Bringing together young people of all abilities is key to the development and success of the West Midlands Inclusive Choirs. Getting together, whether on-line or in-person, removes barriers, encourages inclusivity and celebrates that everyone, no matter their abilities or skills, can enjoy and benefit from music-making.” Stuart Birnie, Head of Music, Services For Education

2022 10 Years of Services For Education! SFE receives national accolade, winning the Arts, culture and heritage award at the Charity Awards 2022 Youth Proms 2022Celebrating 10 Years of Services For Education and a joyous return to the Symphony Hall!

2018 2012 was a busy year for Services For Education. We launched 3 completely new projects, and one of our brass ensembles came third in a national competition! Soundtots Launch.Soundtots is a musical intervention to help children reach a progressive level of development during their time in EYFS. Find out more about Soundtots Project here. The Community Choir Launch. We started our Community Choirs to combat this isolation in Birmingham and provide a much-needed outlet and community for adults. Find out more about our Community Choirs here. SFE Music School Launch. We also launched a new Music School, providing private lessons for children and adults, in two locations in Birmingham. Find out more about our music schools here. Last, but not least, Birmingham Schools' Brass band gained Silver at the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain! What a wonderful achievement.

2013 - 2015 From 2013-2015 Services For Education developed and improved their offer to support almost every area of education in Birmingham. We were invited to get involved in a number of projects during this time, including: Birmingham Schools Symphony Orchestra, toured Germany, giving four fantastic performances, including the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. The Local Authority commissioned Services For Education to promote the engagement of schools with the City's World War One commemorations. See more here. We worked with schools on a number of issues that had been identified in the area and created some new resources centred around values which appeared on the Purple Mash platform used by many schools at the time. We also hosted our first ever Ukulele Showcase with over 250 performers in the Adrian Boult Hall!
