Talking specifically about vocabulary can support students. We can explicitly teach a new vocabulary term within the context of the read aloud. Discussing synonyms and examples of the word help to build knowledge as well.

Tier 2: words that are often found in read-alouds and / or used by adults that might be unfamiliar to our students
Tier 3: words that are either not used very often or are specific to a content, like academic vocabulary
