BLUE BRAIN

Presented by: Purnata MondalArundhati BarikSrijita Pal

What is blue brain project?

The human brain is the highest worth creation of God and the man is intelligent because of it. The world’s first virtual brain is named as the “Blue Brain” which means that a machine can work like a human brain. The Blue Brain Project is a Swiss brain research initiative that aims to use biologically-detailed digital reconstructions and simulations of the mammalian brain to identify the fundamental principles of brain structure and function. The simulations are carried out on a BLUE GENE supercomputer built by IBM. Hence, the name blue brain.

Working of Virtual Brain

  • Uploading of the brain is done by nanobots.
  • Can monitor the central nervous system by moving through the spine and brain and while still residing in the biological form, they act as an interface with the computer.
  • Nanobots provide a complete readout of the connection by scanning the entire structure of brain.

2. Simulation- In this step, a software called NEURON is used which uses various algorithms to study the cells. This software is written in C, C++ and FORTRAN. 3. Visualization- For visualization of the results, the RT Neuron application is used. This application is written in C++ and openGL.

3 Main Steps to form Virtual Brain

  1. Data Acquisition - 3D Neurological Morphologies are reconstructed by taking slices of the human brain.

BLUE BRAIN vs HUMAN BRAIN

  • Input through silicon chip
  • Interpretation by a set of bits in the register
  • Output through silicon chip
  • Processing through arithmetic and logical calculations and AI

  • Input through regular neurons
  • Interpretation by different states of neurons
  • Output through natural cells.
  • Processing through arithmetic and logical calculations.

applications

  1. The most important application is to gather and test data of up to 100 years.
  2. Cracking of neural code is also one of the applications.
  3. One of the most Nobel uses of this blue brain project is in drug discovery for human brain disorders.
  4. A replica of a NCC will allow researchers to explore hypothesis of brain function and dysfunction accelerating research.
  5. Having an advanced 2D and 3D immersive visualization system we will be able to study the "imaging" of many aspects of neural dynamics during processing, storage and retrieval of information.

ADVANTAGES

  1. Remembering information would not be a hastle.
  2. Decision can be made without the presence of a person.
  3. Intelligence of a dead man can be used.
  4. Improvements in processing speed and memory.
  5. Benificial for deaf and mad people.
  6. Different activities of animals can be understood.

DISADVANTAGES

1. Dependence on the system2. Problem of hacking and information manipulation.3. Threat of computer virus.4. Expensive project.
