The nervous system- to put it simply, it perceives the world and tells you how to react to it. It creates emotions, memories and ideas. The brain is pure processing power connected to a giant network of nerves and fibres that work in perfect synergy. But how do you learn new things? More specifically, how does the brain allow you to learn? Everyone has probably heard the phrase “practice makes perfect multiple times in their life, but what's the actual science behind that, and what method will help your brain retain information the most practically in order to achieve the best you can.​ The purpose of this project is to explore ….​

What's going on in the brain when you learn? In order to learn anything, whether it’s a new language, a school subject, a musical instrument or how to play a new sport, you need to create and strengthen pathways in your nervous system. You know when your able to just do something, to reproduce a particular movement without really thinking, that’s muscle memory. Muscle memory lives in the brain not the muscle. The brain controls everything your muscles do and it does this by activating a specific neuropathway for each and every movement. Say you’ve just learnt to do something new, the first time you do it there's a very good chance you won't succeed. This is because you don’t have the pathway for it yet. You need to create it. ​ In a similar way to muscle memory, your brain needs to build pathways when learning new information. But theoretically what learning technique is the best way to retain and retrieve information?​ ​
