EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING, WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
wHAT IS SELF BELIEF?
is the belief that we can make a difference and have strengths we can draw on in times of challenge
sELF bELIEF
What were his challenges and how did he overcome them? How did he show self belief?
Marcus Rashford
Think of a time when you have shown self-belief What did you achieve? How did you feel?
You!
Think of a situation that can lead to unhelpful thinking (For example: worrying about an exam; falling out with a friend; worrying about doing a presentation in class; etc.) Identify and write down the unhelpful thoughts and share them with your group if you feel able.
Dealing with negativity
01
Activity
How to turn negatives into positives. Look at the negative thoughts you listed in the last activity. Now, look at the facts for and against it. What is the likelihood of the worst-case scenario happening? Looking at the facts, change each thought into a positive or more realistic one. e.g. instead of “I’ve argued with my best friend - they’ll never speak to me again” think…. “I’ve argued with my best friend; I’ll let things cool down for a few days and then I’ll apologise for my part in the row.”
Strategy 1
This is another strategy you could use to turn unhelpful thinking habits into positive thinking habits - by ‘flipping’ negative thoughts. Again, look at the negative thoughts you listed before. ‘Flip’ each negative thought into a positive one. e.g. instead of thinking “I failed my Maths test, I will never pass my GCSE”, turn it into “I got some questions right and I can ask the teacher for help with the areas I really struggle with.”
Strategy 2
Strategy 3
Being grateful for the small things!
Spend a few minutes writing down 3-4 things for which you are thankful.Has this led you to feel more positive or hopeful? Share your thoughts with your group if you feel able.
Gratitude is the quality of being thankful; the readiness to show appreciation for something and to return kindness.
You may want to watch this video clip which shows how feelings of positivity and negativity can affect us.
In pairs or groups give two examples for each topic below:A place you are grateful for.A person you are grateful for.A food you are grateful for.A song you are grateful for.For each example you need to be able to say WHY.
Activity: The Gratitude Game
Think of a person you are grateful to. Could you make their day by giving them a random act of kindess. What could this be?
Something to think about
