Thanksgiving has been celebrated for over 400 years. Its origin dates back to 1620, when a group of immigrants arrived from Europe (specifically, from England) to the United States. Native Indians from Massachusetts helped them work the land and prosper. As a thank you, European immigrants organized a dinner that lasted several days. That’s when it all started. Today, families relive this tradition, sharing a menu (mostly with roast turkey) around a table. For those who celebrate it, it’s like Christmas. Only what is celebrated in this case is the importance of the value of gratitude. The family thanks each other for having each other and for being able to continue sharing that day after year.

Vocabulary of Thanksgiving day
It is November and our special family holiday, Thansgiving is coming. This festival is on the fourth Thursday of November every year and this year is in on 24th. There is no school on Thanksgivin Day and there is no school on Friday, That´s great! Our family get together on Thanksgiving Day and invite our friends. We always have a big dinner. My mum makes a lot of food and I always help her in the kitchen. We eat roast turkey, sweet potatoes (called tam), gravy, corn, pumkin pie and cranberry sauce. Before dinner we give thanks God for the things we have. I love this holiday because all my family is together and we have a great time. Happy Thansgiving to all of you!
