Observation Process
Aligned to the Professional Teaching Standards, observations will focus on the 3 elements within the Professional Standard: Pedagogy: Refining Teaching, Advancing Learning, and Influencing Learners. Each term the observation will focus on a different element. I.e., Autumn term; Refining Teaching, Spring term; Advancing learning, Summer term; Influencing learners.
Step 1 – Observations to be timetable and circulated (note the observer will be allocated to a tutor who will be the coach/mentor for the entire academic observation cycle). Step 2 – Practitioners to complete CPD on identified theme that is to be observed Step 3 - Coaching and mentoring session to take place between the Observer and Practitioner. Observations to be schedule at this point. Step 4 – Observer to carry out observation, complete relevant paperwork, and schedule feedback/professional discussion (this must be done on the same day as the observation). Step 5 – Observer to circulate Observation Record to Schools Quality Manager & Line manager.Step 6 – School's Quality Manager to collate analyse & report initial findings to Head of Continuous Improvement and Head of 11-16 EducationStep 7 –Moderation of judgments - Areas of good practice and areas of development will be shared Agreed areas of development will be used to inform Learner Walk focus.

Learner walks will be carried out on a termly basis with 3 learner walks to be completed per centre. The area of focus will be the agreed areas of development from the previous observation. The School's Quality Manager should carry out learner walks and complete relevant documentation.

Book Reviews will be carried out on a termly basis. A sample of files/books will be selected from each area of learning experience with a focus being the same element as the observation for that term. Vocational qualifications will be IQA in line with ACT IQA Policy
