Federalism
What is Federalism?
Federalism is a form of government where there are two levels of government:
Federal or national, and states or regional governments.
In theory, federalism is the sharing of sovereighty between two levels of local government.
How it affects our lives?
It can promote political participation, provide incentives for governments to innovate their policies, and take into account various points of view nationwide. The drawbacks include the possibility of a race to the bottom among states, the development of social and economic divides between states, and the impediment to federal efforts to solve pressing national issues.
As for the current form of government in the country, it is unitary with some features of governance devolved or distributed to local governments
As to why some countries opt for federalism, the structure may be more ideal for those with divrse traditions and populations.
There are reasons why some nation-states opt for federalism.
Some of the reasons include preservation of identities. Iden tities can be in terms of ethnicity, cukture, religion and other differences
Pros and cons of Federalism
The flexibility it offers regions in the management of their own affairs, be it in the crafting of their budget, distribution of representation in the local assembly and even in the formulation of social and economic policies.
Positive about federalism, that we highlight the regional identities, these differences that is in our context as a Philippine society, is very apparent.
Problem also exists in the current form of government, federalism might enable some unscrupulous individuals to dodge accountability.
When you give more funds,it becomes vulnerable to corruption.
Federalism can exacerbate the situation and corruption may even be widespread
