Developed by British applied linguists between the 1930s and the 1960s.

2. PRINCIPLES of slT
- "Vocabulary control" and “grammar control”. With a core basic vocabulary of about 2,000 words that occur frequently in written texts.
- Basic skills of a language, through structure, accuracy in both pronunciation and grammar:The ability to respond quickly and accurately in speech situations and an automatic control of basic structures and sentence patterns.
- SLT was known for introducing second language grammar and vocabulary in natural situations and for emphasizing oral and aural skill development prior to focusing on second language literacy.
3. application of method
- A typical lesson According to Situational Language Teaching · lesson starts with stress and intonation practice followed by a revision and a presentation of new materials (mainly structures or vocabulary)
- Then proceeds to oral practice and drilling of the elements presented.
- Finally, the lesson ends with reading activity or written exercises.
STUDENT ROLE

Disadvantages in using SLT in English teaching. 1. Bad for some students who are too shy to join in the role-play 2. Some grammatical and structural errors that prevent students to master the language.
Advantages in using SLT in English teaching. 1. SLT makes it possible for students to understand ABSTRACT theory easily in the texts by adopting vivid language, role- playing, visual illustrations, game adoptions and music affection to create different situations. 2. This method increases students’ cognition efficiently.
