General information about nettie

  • Nettie Marie Stevens, was born on July 7 1861, and passed away on May 4, 1912. She is considered to be one of the world's revolutionary scientists, since with her findings concerning biology , she changed the world of genetics.
  • Her occupation was a genetists, and she made extensive reaserch regarding sex chromosomes and discoverd the X and Y chromosomes.

her Early life

  • Beside from the fact that the the father was the only person accountable for the family , his occupation, carpentry , provided sufficient education for all of his children, including Nettie.
  • Nettie was born on Luly 7, 1861, in Cavendish , Vermont.
She was one of the children of Julia and Efrem Stevens.
  • Due to the unplesant occurence, of her mother's death , the whole family was forced to move to Massachussets, where the family was taken care by the father.

nettie's education

  1. Stevens was one of the top students among her sisters at Westford Academy, where she was one of the first to graduate.
2. After graduating, she moved to New Hampshire, were she taught Biology, Zoology , Latin and other. 3. However she had a big desire of continuing her studies, hence she returned in academia, and more specifically, in Westfield State Univeristy, where she completed a 4 year course in only 2 years. 4. Furthermore, she attained here B.A in 1899, at Stanford University.

5. Later on, after her B.A ., she completed her PhD in cytology , where she contaimplated mostly on multicellular organisms, the developpment of sperm eggs and cell devision.
