introduction

What do you like about your hometown? What is there to see? Do you have friends outside your hometown? What if they decided to visit? Where would you take them? What would you show them? Take some notes and then discuss in your class. Move on to see what’s next.

Task

You have decided to take part in a European tourism competition. Create a two-page long travel guide of your hometown. Include 5 sections: 1) location, 2) a museum a tourist can visit, 3) a famous person from your hometown, 4) a famous battle that took place in your hometown and 5) a section of your own choice. In each section include a photo you will take by yourself. Be careful about the layout of your travel guide. Make it attractive.

Follow these steps to make your travel guide. For each section you are given links to follow in order to find all the necessary information. Read the resources. In each section write a paragraph of about 100 words. In each section, add a photo you took by yourself. You can take a photo with your mobile phone. This way you avoid copyright issues and you can also add a bit of your personality in the photo since you take the shot yourself.

Step 2:

So, you will have to do a mediation activity. You will read information in Greek; select the information you believe is most important and then write your text in English. Do not translate parts word for word. Use the information to create your own English text. You may however need to find how to say some Greek words in English. Use this link: https://www.wordreference.com/gren/

Write some basic information about who Athanassios Eftaxias was in about 100 words. There is very little information about Athanassios Eftaxias in English. For instance, in Wikipedia, there is the following description: He “was a Greek politician. He was born in Amfikleia, Phthiotis,[1] and was briefly Prime Minister of Greece from July to August 1926. He died in Athens.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athanasios_Eftaxias)

In 100-150 words briefly describe The Battle of Dadi and why it was important for the Greek War of Independence. Again, there is very little information about this battle in English. You will work the same way as in step 3 above. Use information about the battle written in Greek to write you English text. There is a monument of this battle next to our school. Take a picture of it.
