FOLK THEORIES
Growing up in an african family with grand-parents who whould always tell you about theories that as kids we found them pretty scared but as we grew up we figure that some of t hem were true just like others were little lies to have us behave well.
Background story
lighting
rain
# do not use your phone there's lightning outside
it is believed and told by grand-parents that using your phone during lightning strikes, cause cause you to be it. their explanation is that the phone light and phone radiation would cause this. they did not really get into other detail as to why thry clame this theory.but as i grew up i realised that they were only saying that to get us off our phone and spend more time with the family
sleeping with your shoes or sandals above you head
Sleeping with your shoes above your bed or head, is believed to bring bad luck and bad dreams during your sleep. this theory is also similar to the one where if you leave your shoes near your bed you are inviting ghosts into your bed. as for this theory i have experience the bad dreams happen before but nothing else abnormal.
WANTING TO ICH YOUR RIGHT OR LEFT PALM
ICTHY RIGHT HAND
it is told to many generations in West africa that having your right palm meant that you would be receiving money soon. i believe this theory because it did come true one day when my uncle came in later that day and handed me some cash
ITCHY LEFT HAND
Now knowing that having an urge to icth your right hand meant that you will be receiving money, the left hand is the complete opposite and means that you would be offering money to someone else.
WHY DO MY GRAND-PARENTS BELIEVE IN THESE THEORIES AND HOW IT RELATED TO CHAPTER ONE O FOUR BOOK
It was thought to them as young kids by their parents they were told that this was something that our group of ethnicity believed in. knowing that we have more theories, butnthese are the most known. it became part of our culture, belives and lives as in a relation with the theories of developement from chapter one, i would say that these theories that we have in our tradittion , is something that we do not know its origins. but as it did come true for the majority of people in our community we decided to make it our traditiom and believe in it. t'ill this day grand-parents in villages still tells these theories to youngers people so keep their klegacy going.
