Music Class Frequently Asked Questions

WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE I HAVE A "100" IN ALL MY LESSONS BUT MY GRADE IS LOWER THAN "A"? Much of your classes in music will be LCS (Live Classroom Session). These classes, however, are only 35% of your grade. If you attend or watch these classes, you have already gotten an easy 35. 65% of your grade will be your projects and assessments. This helps me know what, if anything, I need to reteach, and how I can support you in class. It also gives me an idea of what you know and how you learn as well.

DO I NEED TO ATTEND LIVE CLASSES? Music content is ONLY provided in the Live Classroom Sessions. Per CCA policy, if you do not attend LCS during your given synchronous time, then you will have to watch the lesson when you are able to do so. Because there is currently no edio content for the lessons (we are building that course, but it is not ready yet), all the content for your assessments and projects will be included in the LCS. I would strongly encourage all students to attend LCS.

DO I NEED TO PASS MUSIC IN ORDER TO MAKE THE HONOR ROLL? The short answer to that is "Yes." All courses are included in your GPA.

I HAVE A LOT OF OVERDUES IN MY CORE CLASSES. MY SPECIALS CLASSES ARE TOO STRESSFUL. DO I HAVE TO DO THEM??? Please let ME know. I want to work with you and help you achieve. Study after study says that learners who engage in art and music actually do better in school. I highly encourage you to talk to all your specials teachers, who want what is best for you as a whole student. We do not want you dropping your specials, because we believe it is in your best interest emotionally and academically, to engage in the fine arts. We will help you work through it individually. Communication is key!

How can I contact Mrs. Costello? I am available via edio chat or webmail. My webmail is: acostello@ccaeducate.me. I am happy to meet 1:1 in Zoom as well. Please do not hesitate to reach out!

WHAT IS MUSIC LIKE IN AN ONLINE SETTING? In 4th grade, we will focus on 4 major aspects of music: composition, history, film scores, and appreciation. We will sing, move, write, listen, and analyze. By the end of the year, you will have written your own song, performed for me (or a caretaker), and traveled through time in music. It is most useful to attend live classroom sessions live, and is required by CCA to either attend live or watch the full recording.
