Loaded terms - What's in a name? Martin Luther King used the term "Negro" in his famous speech "I have a dream". These days this term must not be used as it is outdated and offensive. Terms and meanings have shifted over the decades. In this lesson we will look for advice which term to use when reffering to racial identity. 1) You will explore a series of texts about racial identity and terminology. Skim the texts and choose two or three to read in detail. 2) Outline the autor's views on terms to describe Black people. 3) Get together in groups of three and compare your results. Discuss the potential of the various terms you have encountered. 4) In your group agree on a term to use in class. Justify your decision.
